We promote and safeguard research integrity through a variety of pathways, in particular education and training, advice and guidance, and awareness-raising and outreach. All services we offer are free of charge for LARI member organizations and their affiliated researchers, students, and other personnel.

What are the learning goals of research integrity trainings offered by LARI?
The overarching goal of our trainings is to help researchers navigate research integrity challenges responsibly. Learning goals of particular trainings depend on a variety of factors, such as career stage and disciplinary background of participants, their interests, and the timeframe and format of the training.
Topics we typically address in our trainings include, but are not limited to, key principles and values of research integrity, the relationship between research integrity and research ethics, publication ethics (e.g., ethical authorship practices, responsible peer review), research and researcher evaluation and their effects on research integrity, responsible open science (e.g., open access and open data and their limits), and responsible supervision and mentorship. In general, we always seek to tailor thematic foci of trainings to the needs of participants.
All trainings offered by LARI are based on a learner-centered active learning approach. Therefore, trainings involve many interactive exercises and have a strong focus on developing and cultivating skills and habits that enable researchers to competently and responsibly navigate research integrity challenges.
On what guidance documents are trainings based?
The key guidance document for research integrity trainings as well as all other activities of LARI is the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. However, we also draw on several other important guidance documents that provide more specific guidance than the European Code of Conduct, which, by design, is a general rather than highly granular reference document. Other guidance documents we frequently introduce and discuss during trainings include, for example, the Vancouver recommendations on authorship, the CRediT taxonomy on contributor roles, the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), the TRUST Code of Conduct for Equitable Research Partnerships, and the ROSiE General Guidelines on Responsible Open Science.
Moreover, we leverage expertise from projects like VIRT2UE, Path2Integrity, INTEGRITY, ROSiE, as well as materials from the Embassy of Good Science and ENAI.
What is the format of the trainings?
Depending on the needs and availability of participants, trainings are offered either in-person/on-site, fully online, or in a blended format comprising both online and on-site elements. For groups exceeding 12 participants, we prefer an on-site or blended format to allow for meaningful interaction and group exercises.
Trainings are offered for groups of 5 to 20 learners. Depending on intended learning outcomes, learners may come from similar or different disciplinary backgrounds as well as similar or different career stages.
What do the trainings cost?
Trainings are free of charge for researchers, students and research-support personnel affiliated with a LARI member organization (University of Luxembourg, FNR, LIH, LISER, LIST).
How can I express interest in and/or register for a training?

LARI regularly offers research integrity trainings for PhD students in collaborations with the Transferable Skills Unit of the University of Luxembourg.

Who can contact LARI to ask for advice and guidance?
All LARI services are available and free of charge for LARI member organizations (University of Luxembourg, FNR, LIH, LISER, LIST) as well as researchers, students, and other personnel affiliated with these organizations. Members of the Luxembourgish general public interested in or concerned about research integrity may also contact LARI in case they would like to learn more about research integrity in general and research integrity in Luxembourg in particular.

What is the scope of advice and guidance provided by LARI?
As a research integrity office, all advice and guidance we give is focused on research integrity as defined in the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. Topics we can give advice and guidance on include, but are not limited to, questions about authorship and contributorship, responsible open science, responsible peer review, and proper supervision and mentoring.
By contrast, we do not and cannot give advice on issues that are not related to research integrity, such as harassment and labor law and other legal issues, because they fall outside our statutory remit and expertise. We do, however, try to point people with questions on such issues to the right contact points for their concerns.
Moreover, it is important to emphasize that LARI is not a research ethics committee or institutional review board. While there are overlaps between research ethics (ethics ad scientia) and research integrity (ethics in scientia), we usually do not give advice or guidance on questions that fall fully in the realm of research ethics.
